Visiting El Iral Without a Rental Car: Shared Transport Explained

You can plan a visit to El Iral Cloud Forest without renting a car by adding its optional shared round-trip transport to your Day Pass. The published service requires at least two guests per booking, lists pickup at 7:30 a.m. and describes coverage from San José to Marriott Belén. Enter your hotel and address when reserving; if your location is outside the coverage area, contact El Iral before paying.

If you are comparing day tours from San José, Costa Rica, separate three decisions: admission, transport and guiding. El Iral’s shared ride is a transport extra. The Day Pass provides self-guided hiking, while a private bilingual naturalist guide is another optional addition. This guide focuses on getting there and back; the service details below were checked on October 18, 2026.

Check the pickup address before building your day around it

Start with where you will actually be staying on the morning of the visit. A hotel name alone may not resolve the location, especially when a property has more than one branch. Have the full hotel name and address ready, and use the address for that night’s accommodation rather than a different stop on your itinerary.

The published coverage is “San José to Marriott Belén.” That description is not a list of every eligible property or a promise of pickup anywhere in the metropolitan area. If you are uncertain whether your address falls within it, ask El Iral to confirm the location before you commit to the transport option.

For an address outside the coverage area, the booking conditions explicitly say to contact El Iral before paying to arrange availability and any surcharge. Do not assume that an outlying hotel is included because it is marketed as being near San José. Likewise, do not read the reference to Belén as confirmation of an airport transfer; an airport pickup request needs its own answer.

Understand the two-guest minimum

Shared transport has a minimum of two guests per booking. A one-person reservation does not meet that published requirement. If you are traveling alone, contact El Iral to ask what arrangements, if any, can be confirmed before relying on the shared service.

For families, the transport price distinguishes adults from children aged 4–12. The Day Pass minimum age is four. Check the participant ages before choosing extras, and ask about any child-related transport arrangements you need clarified. The public listing does not specify child-seat provisions, so those should not be assumed.

Keep pickup time separate from park entry time

The shared service lists pickup at 7:30 a.m. Your park entry time is separate from that pickup time. Selecting a time in the reservation flow should not be read as changing the published transport schedule.

The listing does not provide a hotel-by-hotel pickup sequence. Check the instructions supplied for your reservation, and resolve any uncertainty about where to wait or when to be ready with El Iral. All published times are Costa Rica local time.

For the return, the shared transport departs El Iral by 2:00 p.m. That is a departure from the property, not a guaranteed arrival time at your hotel. Plan your walk and any reserved meal around the shared return. Visitors arriving independently have a different latest departure of 3:00 p.m.; that later limit does not extend the shared transport schedule.

Budget for the ride and admission separately

The published round-trip transport price is US$50 per adult and US$24 per child aged 4–12. Admission is separate: US$15 per adult and US$7 per child. These listed prices include tax.

For two adults, admission plus shared transport totals US$130: US$30 for the two Day Passes and US$100 for the two transport extras. This example excludes meals, a private guide and any separately confirmed charge for an address outside the published coverage.

Breakfast, lunch and guiding are optional extras rather than inclusions in the transport price. Outside food is prohibited, so think through meals before finalizing the reservation. You can select breakfast, lunch, both or neither; use the current booking details for the meal options and prices.

A private guide does not make the vehicle private

El Iral offers a private bilingual naturalist guide as a separate extra. The service description specifically states that a private guide does not make transport private. Choose guiding for the interpretation you want during the visit, without treating it as an upgrade to a private vehicle or a custom return schedule.

If your plans depend on private transport, a different pickup time, a particular luggage arrangement or another special requirement, ask whether it can be accommodated. Those are requests to confirm, not features included in the published shared option.

Leave room for the return journey

Avoid planning a tight flight connection or another fixed appointment around an assumed hotel arrival time. The service publishes when the return leaves El Iral, but not a guaranteed arrival at each destination. Confirm logistics directly and allow a margin appropriate to your onward plans.

The Day Pass operates Wednesday through Sunday and requires booking at least 48 hours ahead. Customer support is listed as Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Costa Rica time. If you need an address or transport request clarified, plan for that support window instead of leaving the question until the morning of the visit.

Before you confirm your reservation

Have your visit date, participant ages, hotel name and full pickup address ready. Check that your group meets the minimum, your location is covered or separately confirmed, and the published return fits your plans. Review the current cancellation conditions before paying. Full online payment confirms the reservation and selected extras.
